SOCIAL SERVICES DIRECTORIES

Directory of Social Services for Women in San Francisco: Browse over 200 agencies providing social services to women and girls throughout the City and Bay Area.

Current Violence Against Women Prevention and Intervention (VAW) Grants Program Partner Agencies - These programs, funded by the Department, provide services in 6 areas: emergency shelter, transitional housing, crisis lines, intervention and advocacy, legal services, and prevention education.

Service Directory for Girls (pdf): The Commission on the Status of Women's Girls Committee teamed up with Assemblywoman Fiona Ma's office to put together this resource list of services for girls in San Francisco. This useful guide can help young women in San Francisco locate everything from afterschool programs to health and legal services.

Directory of Services for Survivors of Human Trafficking 2010 (.doc) - Produced with the San Francisco Collaborative Against Human Trafficking, this guide is filled with local agencies with expertise in working with survivors of human trafficking.

 


VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Justice & Courage: A Blueprint for San Francisco's Response to Domestic Violence (2002) - Following a tragic domestic violence homicide, San Francisco examined the criminal justice system's response, making hundreds of recommendations. This report resulted in the formation of the Justice and Courage Oversight Panel in 2002, a committee of the Commission.

Safety for All: Identifying and Closing the Gaps in San Francisco's Domestic Violence Criminal Justice Response (pdf) - San Francisco Domestic Violence Safety and Accountability Audit Report (March 2007)

Courage to Change: Final Report of the Domestic Violence Safety and Accountability Audit Implementation Commitee, May 2010 - The Audit Implementation Committee documented its 2 years of work implementing the recommendations in Safety for All.

First Comprehensive Report on Family Violence in San Francisco, 2009 (also available as a PDF) - the first of it's kind, this report of the Family Violence Council examines child abuse, domestic violence, and elder abuse indicators in San Francisco.

 

VAW Grants Program Annual Service Report, FY2008-2009 - The Violence Against Women Prevention and Intervention Grants Program funds 34 programs in San Francisco. Service outcomes for FY08-09 are documented in this report.

Domestic Violence Counts (.doc): 2009 Census of Domestic Violence Services. The Department conducted a 24-hour survey of domestic violence service providers to gain a better sense of the help-seeking patterns of victims of domestic violence. The report outlines the findings of this survey.

Creating a Safer San Francisco: Integrating Multicultural Strategies to End Violence Against Women and Girls (pdf) - This needs assessment conducted in 2007 showcases the strengths of the current provider network, and examines gaps in the domestic violence intervention system.

 


 

CEDAW - Women's Human Rights Ordinance

CEDAW in Action 2010 (pdf): This report documents the work of the Department since the 1998 adoption of the local CEDAW Women's Human Rights Ordinance, providing examples of best practices to aid other municipalities in adopting similar measures.

Gender Responsive Budgeting: A Path to Accountability and Data-Based Policy-Making, February 2010 (pdf) - On the forefront of accountability and transparency, San Francisco moves a step closer to Gender Responsive Budgeting with this report, a survey of demographic data collection practices of City departments.

Gender Analysis Guidelines - Learn how to conduct a gender analysis, an tool developed to ensure City departments have equitable policies, programs, services, and budgets.

CEDAW Gender Analysis Reports - Gender analyses were conducted at several City departments, and the original and follow-up reports are contained here.

Gender Analysis of San Francisco Commissions and Boards, 2009 (pdf) - A 2008 charter amendment requires that the Department conduct biannual gender analysis of appointments to commissions and boards, analyzing gender, race, and disability status of appointees. The charter amendment came as a result of the Department's Gender Analysis of Commissions, Boards, and Task Forces, 2007 (pdf).

Gender Analysis of City Departments' Budget Cuts, 2006 (.doc) - A prelude to Gender Responsive Budgeting, the Department won a 2006 National Association of Counties Acheivement Award for utilizing the Gender Analysis tool to uncover disparities in the 2003 budget process.

CEDAW Task Force Action Plan Progress Reports - The CEDAW Task Force, per the CEDAW Ordinance, operated from 1998 to 2007. The work of the Task Force is documented in the Progress Reports.

 


 

EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMICS

Gender Equality Principles Initiative (external link) - The Departmen has teamed up with Calvert Asset Management and Verite to create the Gender Equality Principles to provide private sector entitites with the tools they need to create gender equitable workplaces. 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment (Stimulus) Act - The Stimulus Act of 2009 is designed to bolster the economy in the current economic crisis. Find out more about where this money goes and if women will benefit:

Recruitment of Women in Non-Traditional Fields - Despite laws that prohibit discrimination and harassment, women are still underrepresented in traditionally male dominated occupations. The Department offers these recruitment strategies and resources, compiled from a list of organizations whose focus is on increasing the number of women in non-traditional occupational areas.

Work-Life Polices & Practices Survey Report - Conducted in 2000, this report identifies the tools City departments have developed to promote work-life balance among employees.

A Report on Girls in San Francisco, Benchmarks for the Future - The Girls Report, released by the Department in 2003, is a landmark report for San Francisco.
