LOCAL MARIN MAN LIVES ON CARNIVAL CRUISE SHIP FOR A YEAR AND SURVIVES TO TALK ABOUT IT
Micha Berman, a resident of San Anselmo writes book about his wacky one of a kind job search and dream job aboard Carnival Cruise Line's M.S. Ecstasy
San Anselmo, CA (January 9, 2008) – Micha Berman was a graduate student at George Washington University when he received a phone call from the Entertainment Director of Carnival Cruise Lines, the largest Cruise Line in the world. He had been offered a dream job aboard the M.S. Ecstasy and had 48 hours to report to Miami and join the crew of the 70,000 ton cruise ship as one of its two Assistant Cruise Directors. Berman in his new book, Permanent Passenger: My Life on a Cruise Ship describes his first encounter with the cruise ship as "a blind date I would never forget and one I could never really prepare for."
Permanent Passenger: My Life on a Cruise Ship, a book published today through the online content marketplace Lulu.com tells Berman's adventure serving as an Assistant Cruise Director on one of the largest cruise ships in the world, and gives the reader a first-hand look at cruise life through the eyes of a "permanent passenger." Witnessing rescues at sea, stowaways, fatalities, and passionate romances are just some of the day to day events revealed in this book. Berman also describes the wacky job search he undertook to land the dream job including sending letters to over 2,000 college alumni, chasing cruise line executives into bathrooms, and transforming a dorm room into a private office with hired interns.
Berman conceived of the book after getting off the cruise ship and noticing the fascination on his friends and families' faces as he relayed stories about the secret lives of crew members living on the ship. Neil Maxwell-Keys, founder of WorkOnCruiseships.com says, "Micha Berman has written a fantastic book on his cruise ship adventures. It's well written, informative, and humorous, but most importantly it contains plenty of essential information for anyone wanting to work on a cruise ship." Others such as Charlene Carabeo Tappeiner, a former cruise ship performer and Broadway castmember of Miss Saigon, describe Berman's book as, "& playfully honest, he creates the perfect picture of what life is like on a cruise ship as an employee." Though he never expected to publish a book about his time on the ship, Berman says he has become an advocate for cruising, urging friends and relatives to experience life on the seven seas.
