1) Soda Free Summer Launches this week! (back to top)
The Regional Soda Free Summer Campaign will be officially launched at the Bay Area Nutrition and Physical Activity Council Quarterly Meeting tomorrow, June 4th.
Date: June 4, 2008
Time: 8:30AM - 3:30PM
Location: Elihu Harris State Building (1515 Clay Street, Oakland, CA 94612)
On Thursday, June 5, the City will officially kick off "Soda Free Summer" at Francisco Middle School, 2190 Powell St. @ Francisco, from 9:45 a.m. – noon. Sixth graders will participate in the interactive educational assembly, "Be Sugar Savvy," followed by a variety of other games and activities. Mayor Newsom will present a proclamation declaring it a Soda Free Summer in San Francisco. After the assembly, the sixth graders will test their knowledge with an "Are you more Sugar Savvy than a Fifth Grader?" carnival event.

2) Shape Up BVHP on the View from the Bay (back to top)
Shape Up Bayview Hunters Point will be featured on a segment in today's View From the Bay: Getting kids to eat their vegetables is much easier when they grow their own! You can watch the show live!

3) San Francisco rated fittest city in the USA! (back to top)
In a recent study by the American College of Sports Medicine, San Francisco was rated the fittest city in the United States! Read the article on USA Today.

6) 3rd Annual Physical Activity and Nutrition Forum: June 19 (back to top)

Location: Mills College in Oakland
Description: We are pleased to partner on this exciting event with the American Cancer Society. This year's theme is "Physical Activity and Nutrition--A Prescription for Good Health." Forum 08 promises to be a unique and valuable experience for nutritionists and other public health professionals, community organizations, physicians and other clinicians, educators, fitness professionals and others. Please note that each participant must complete a separate registration form. Registration and lunch are free, but please register early as seating is limited.

8) Bayview Physical Activity Survey (back to top)
If you are a Southeast Sector resident or community provider please participate in an online survey. This survey is for residents of the Southeast Sector of San Francisco and the community groups/organizations, instructors, artists, and healers who serve or would like to serve these residents. Your responses will be used to guide the creation of programs and activities to increase physical exercise, reduce stress, and offer complementary health services.

9) The Big ONE 2008 (back to top)
Date: June 21& 22
Time: 9am-7pm
Location: Sharon Meadow, Golden Gate Park next to the Children's Playground and Carousel
The Big ONE "village of engagement" is a gathering of people from Bay Area neighborhoods, schools, coops, nonprofits, foundations, businesses, and municipal agencies. Participants will design, envision, collaborate, and dialog with new friends about the future of their neighborhoods and communities.
