Ron Vinson
Ron Vinson is Chief Marketing Officer for the Department of Technology for the City and County of San Francisco. In his current position, he is responsible for leading web and e-services in the City & County of San Francisco by encouraging City departments to leverage new media and technologies in creative new ways.
Specifically, he is:
- Leading the development and execution of a new media strategy that leverages social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to better engage the community. Developing new applications for mobile devices bringing government services to constituents on demand.
- Pushing the boundaries of government TV by encouraging the development of new programming and expanding access to video content online.
- Fostering the adoption of new technologies across communities through the TechConnect program linking residents of San Francisco to computers and technology, while also enabling access and coordinating services to improve quality of life.
- Policy and Planning services - These services support electronic governance and include cable franchise administration, development and administration of Citywide technology policies, enterprise IT planning, and recommendation, advocacy and monitoring of technology ordinances, such as the city telecommunication plan. Policy and planning services include processing video franchise applications.
Prior to becoming the Director of Media, for the City and County of San Francisco, Ron Vinson worked as Director of Administration and in charge of all technology contracts and procurement, human resources and finance for the Department of Technology. Ron was also Customer Services Manager for IT related functions for client departments and agencies. He also worked as Director of the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services and Deputy Press Secretary for the Office of Mayor Willie L. Brown, Jr, former Mayor of San Francisco. Ron also worked as Deputy Press Secretary, Office of Mayor Bill Campbell in Atlanta, Georgia and Anchor/Reporter for WAOK/WVEE, Atlanta, GA’s top radio station.
Vinson is originally from Long Island, New York and currently resides in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco, CA. Vinson is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
